Unique Characteristics

Since bull sharks live in fresh and salt water, I was interested to see how there bodies can do this since no other shark can live in the two different environments. I found out that all marine animals regulate the salt and water within them through a process called osmoregulation. This is done constantly as the animals take in more salt or water through osmosis because their skin absorbs whichever one it needs to balance out the ratio within their body. Then, their blood and kidneys force the excess out to keep the animal from dying. A bull shark is the only animal that can regulate both ways as it pees out excess water when it goes in freshwater to keep the salt/water balance correct within its body.
