Role in the Ecosystem
The bull shark is basically at the top of the food chain in all of its environments. The only threat it has is man through the destruction of its ecosystem and fishing. It is commonly caught be fishermen for food and the skin is used to make leather. Near the coast the bull shark actually feeds on many sandbar sharks, which greatly reduces the population. Consequently, fishermen have a limited amount of sandbar sharks to catch for human consumption. The bull shark also shares an ecosystem with saltwater crocodiles and some other sharks, including great whites and tiger sharks, which may occasionally prey on smaller bull sharks.
